Our Mission

Our mission is to provide a safe space for your children to continue learning, exploring, and growing while receiving the benefits of high-quality, and in-person education and care.

A safe and inspiring alternative to public school

Nest + Hatch features micro learning groups within our empowering environment of self-explorative learning, blending outdoor education, extra curricular activities, and Ontario school board curriculum. This is lead by our Ontario Certified Teachers and Early Childhood Educators.

Our Environment

We are located in Toronto’s Roncesvalles/High Park neighbourhood. We’ve carefully designed a learning landscape that’s rational yet free and fluid. Modular classrooms promote an inclusive and collaborative learning environment. Natural materials and neutral colours create a calm setting for the child’s focused study. Playful and transparent, yet homelike and structured, Nest + Hatch nurtures the child’s education through introspection, exploration and discovery.

We’ve made adjustments to follow and exceed Public Health Directives:

  • Symptoms screening and temperature check of all children daily; staff twice morning and afternoon

  • Hand washing and hand sanitizing every period

  • Small, consistent groups each and every term

  • Cleaning every period throughout the day

  • Distancing whenever possible

  • Outdoor exploring + learning (see our new yard?)

  • Masks and/or face shield worn by all staff

  • Staggered arrival and dismissal times
  • HEPA filtration systems on throughout the day

Why a Learning Pod?

As schools, parents and teachers plan for the upcoming school year, they’re faced with the unprecedented challenge of balancing personal health and careers with the welfare and education of children.

Within our small pod, we teach students how to embrace change and collaboratively solve problems with a growth mindset. In line with our educational philosophy, we have designed a safe learning environment where children can progress academically and have social connections with their peers while safeguarding adults from wide exposure.

*Nest + Hatch is not a licensed childcare program or registered private school.

Dedicated Teacher

Nest + Hatch teachers are contractually dedicated to teaching our pod students exclusively. They have experience teaching for the TDSB board with classes in elementary grades.

Limited Class Sizes
  • There are 3 groups of 5, with a maximum of 15 students within our 2000 square foot space. These groups will enjoy daily activities and learning together, and may be split by age group for more grade level-specific education.
  • Each group will be designated to a specific area depending on the activity/curriculum and rotated through the day. Spaces will be thoroughly disinfected after each and every group.
  • Learning will be done outdoors as much as possible and when indoors we have installed 4 ventillation systems with HEPA filters to ensure the utmost safety and comfort.
Ontario Curriculm

Your students will complete their remote Ontario curriculum with maximized care with our 5 students to 1 teacher ratio, have the flexibility to explore outdoor learning, and have extra curricular activities a part of their every day routine at Nest + Hatch.

Safety Procedures

Through extensive research, planning, and preparation, we are taking every necessary precaution to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

CURRICULUM

For our Preschool and Learning Pod students, our curriculum is drawn from fundamental learning standards and focuses on the learning skills that will last students a lifetime and that apply to any discipline.

Our context-rich, interdisciplinary projects offer students real-world opportunities to apply their knowledge and critical thinking skills to foster deep understanding.

Because our students work with teachers to define their own personalized learning goals, they co-create a common understanding of what personal success looks like for their own learning progress.

Supporting your child’s academic goals

And the care you need for them while you focus on yourself.

Preschool at Nest + Hatch

Your child will experience an interactive and inspirational school setting, where we focus on learning in smaller groups, providing them the opportunity to engage in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) learning, while fostering their natural curiosity to wonder, think, play, question and connect with the world around them. By encouraging innovation at such young age, children are on a lifelong path of leadership and contribution towards our society. We focus on a positive social experience with a rich variety of developmentally appropriate activities that encourages their self-confidence. As educators, we believe in incorporating hands-on and outdoor experiences along with making connections to the Ontario school board curriculum so they have the tools and confidence to join the school system and flourish. We introduce students to real life experiences, which will enhance their problem solving and social skills, within our safe, inclusive and cleansed space to optimize their physical and mental wellness.

*Nest + Hatch is not a licensed childcare program and only accepts 6 children in each daily morning session.

Learning Objectives

We offer a gentle introduction for young children to learn how to socialize and become part of a larger community outside of their immediate family, to find their own voice and begin to identify their own interests and skills. We are so thrilled to assist them in their personal growth and learning.

  • Math: Recognize numbers. Understand the relationship between a numeral and a set of objects. Understand such terms as big/little, more/less, etc. Recognize and name basic geometric shapes
  • Art: Provide opportunities for creativity and imagination. Develop small and large muscle skills as well as color concepts
  • Science: Encourage a child’s curiosity and develop respect for the natural environment and awareness of their bodies.
  • Music and movement: Promotes enjoyment and appreciation for music. Expresses freedom of movement and awareness of the body and space
  • Language: Vocabulary growth as well as develop listening skills and provide opportunities for following directions.
  • Literacy: Teach the letters of the alphabet and their sounds.
Safety Procedures

Through extensive research, planning, and preparation, we are taking every necessary precaution to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

This is another example of the great benefits to our small learning pod.

MIND

Students learn independent and collaborative interaction with materials, exploring subjects such as STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math), language and social studies.

BODY

Students learn how to respect and engage their body as a tool to increase wellness and happiness through yoga, dance, and athletics.

SOUL

Inspired by wisdom cultures around the world, students nurture their connection with the planet and within themselves in nature and through fine arts and music.

The purpose of this pod for me is to safeguard young children who a) won’t realistically keep a mask on for 6 hours every day, therefore, need sufficient cleaning/outdoor learning/indoor ventilation protocols to protect them, b) need to read expressions and communicate clearly for very important developmental milestones, and c) require care, nurturing and a healthy routine from their teacher, especially after all this time with family at home. The pod means more space to safely distance, a couple dozen points of contact instead of hundreds, and increased support staff to clean surfaces and children’s hands often, all while providing a socialized environment they enjoy learning in.
